Over the course of evolution, humans have adapted to different lifestyles and nutritional conditions and have genetically modified their metabolism accordingly.

Each individual processes food differently. At the genetic level, there are small variants in the DNA called polymorphisms. These polymorphisms influence metabolism in the processing of macronutrients (carbohydrates, proteins and fats) and calorie consumption during exercise.

The term nutritional genetics (nutrigenetics) is also used in this context. CoGAP has defined four genetic metabolism types (Meta-Types). These genetic variations ensure, among other things, that each person processes the food consumed differently. Consider, for example, family members who eat the same, yet have a different weight.

The concept behind MetaCheck
The CoGAP metabolic analysis begins with these genetic variations. The goal is not one generic diet, but one that also takes into account your personal Meta-Type as determined by CoGAP and provides support through professional nutrition and exercise advice.

The CoGAP MetaCheck is a genetic metabolic analysis that allows clients to have their Meta-Type and its effects determined. As a MetaCheck consultant, determining the MetaTypes allows you to provide innovative nutritional and exercise recommendations.

Multiple studies show that a diet based on the genetic profile results in weight loss. Although the results are promising, more research is required to prove the links. However, CoGAP believes that a diet tailored to the client's genetic characteristics can produce better results than a diet that ignores these physiological characteristics.

4 different metatypes
Weight loss, in fact, depends largely on the individual's genes because food is digested differently. During evolution, humans have adapted to different living conditions. The resulting diet has led to small variations in the DNA at the genetic level, which differ from person to person. These can influence the processing of macronutrients (carbohydrates, proteins and fats), but also the calorie consumption during various efforts.

According to the CoGAP MetaCheck concept, we therefore distinguish between four metatypes: Alpha (α), Beta (ß), Gamma (γ) and Delta (δ). All these metatypes digest macronutrients in food differently. In addition, we also assign metatypes to sports. Metatype E for endurance sports (Endurance) and S for fast power (Speed).

The CoGAP MetaCheck determines these genetic metatypes, which allows you as a practitioner to give nutritional and training recommendations. So not an average diet, but a diet that also takes into account the personal metatype.

The success of the CoGAP MetaCheck
An empirical study evaluated the sustainability of weight reduction with the CoGAP MetaCheck in 2016. Quantitative surveys were evaluated to determine the sustainability of weight loss success with the MetaCheck. In addition, it was examined whether MetaCheck counselors found the genetics aspect a useful addition to their consultation [2].

Of these, nearly 96% stated that the MetaCheck was a useful addition to their expert nutrition advice. Moreover, 87% of their clients felt more at ease after a dietary adjustment based on their metatype. Even 91% of the clients reported that they were able to maintain their new weight since then.
